Our own country!

Today in the blue room we built our own country! The children worked diligently to build a majestic fort out of boxes. They made their own currency, flag, and food. There was even talk of making their own language. We're still talking about what type of government we'd like -- either a monarchy or a president -- and what the country should be called. The kids as well as ourselves are very excited about developing and maintaining their own country!

When we were discussing the 4th of July a few weeks ago, one of the topics that most interested our children was flags. Since then, we have also observed their interest in forts and money, among other things. Today our class decided to combine these interests into a new imaginary country!

Watch for more updates to come. You can ask your child what they think the country should be called and how it should be run. We are also collecting boxes of all sizes (cereal/shoe box size through large appliance boxes) to make a city for our country. Please bring in any extras you may have at home or at work. Thanks!
