Letter B Week

Dear Blue Room Families,

At the end of March, we focused on the letter B. During circle time, we gathered around the rug and brainstormed words that started with the letter B. The most popular words that the children kept mentioning were birds, balls, butterflies, bananas, and boats. Our activities included making birds with feathers, making bird feeders, making the letter B into a bumble bee, and baking banana bread.

G is showing me his completed bird with all the colorful feathers, while other friends are still working hard on theirs.

N is looking for her first feather.

Teacher Janet is helping our friends make bird feeders with Cheerios and pipe cleaners.

We are excited to see if the birds like their food!

L is cutting strips of paper for his bumble bee's stripes.

M and A put on bubble sleeves to make wonderful art.

P showing off her colorful sleeve.

A, L, N, and E are all using straws to blow objects around the table, practicing their physics, prediction, motor planning, and coordination skills.

L is chopping up the butter for banana bread.

A is mixing all the ingredients for banana bread while A counts to five so she can pass the bowl to M.

We had lots of fun with all of our letter B activities. We're looking forward to reviewing our letters since we have now completed the alphabet! :)

Hugs,
Teacher Sammy

PJ's, Pancakes, Butterflies, and Planting

Dear Blue Room Families and Friends,

This was a very fun week! We had a Pancake and PJ party to celebrate Teacher Thaovy's last week with us before her maternity leave. The children took pride in making cards for Teacher Thaovy to share with her baby! The children wrote many nice things, like what they wanted to teach the baby, what they wanted to name him and what they were going to miss about Teacher Thaovy too.

Cooking activities are always a hit in our class! All the children love to be at the cooking table and love to follow the recipe. I'd say that cracking the eggs is a favorite of the children's and they are getting better at not getting the shells in! :) The children love to measure and count how many cups we need.

They also like to count when their friends are stirring. Lots of practicing math in cooking!

The BEST part - eating the pancakes!

YUMMY!

Pancakes, Syrup, and Whip Cream

One of our favorite sensory activities --GAK!

WOW!!!

Drawing in our journals what we see in our butterfly net.

Teacher Thaovy bringing out our butterflies to set them free. We have been watching them transform from caterpillars all the way to butterflies and it has been the most beautiful transformation to watch and be a part of. The children as a group would observe the caterpillars everyday and a different child would draw and explain what they saw that day.

C is overlooking the butterflies waiting for them to fly out. We had 5 butterflies but only 4 survived. One had a messed up wing and didn't make it :( We put it in our science area so that we can check it out.

Outdoors planting with Teacher Sandi

Step 1-- Fill up pots with dirt

Step 2 -- Poke 4 holes for seeds

Step 3 -- Plant seeds in the holes

Step 4 -- Cover the seeds with more dirt

Step 5 -- Watering

Step 6 -- Wait patiently until they start to sprout and then watch them grow and grow and grow.

We had a lot of fun planting lettuce seeds and wild flower seeds. Which one will sprout up first? Feel free to have your child show you their plants - they are in the corner of the yard blocked by the table to try and insure their safety outdoors. :)

Hugs,

Teacher Kristina

Apple Fun

Hello Blue Room Families,

Apples, apples and more apples...

We had different varieties of apples, we measured their skins and compared them. We also sorted the apples into small, medium and large categories.

Tasting apples and hypothesizing about their taste before and later was fun for our friends.

For green apples, 8 friends thought they will be sweet and 7 thought sour. After tasting the green apples, 12 agreed that they were sour and 3 said sweet.

For Fuji apples, 13 opted for sweet and 2 for sour. After tasting, 10 friends thought they were sweet and 2 thought sour.

Yellow apples, we named them Suji...

8 said sweet and 7 said sour and it stayed same after tasting. They also said that Suji was too soft and tasted like pear!

Measuring skin on the number line mat..

Teacher Thaovy brought her bird, Sky and we all loved watching her and feeding her apples.

We worked on the different seasons of apple tree..

Letter Q...

Letter Q painting with Q tips

Quesadilla preparation.......

We enjoyed our quesadillas and they were shaped as triangles.

Thanks,
Kristina

Enjoying our special treat!

Welcome to our class K! K is collaging letter V with veggie shaped hearts for Valentines day.

The boys are exploring sand, catching bugs and worms. The feel of the soft sand falling onto our hands is such a neat feeling when its falls through our fingers. Also during sensory exploration the children are always having very in-depth conversations about different types of bugs. And I always love to over hear where their imaginations are going.

Valentine's Art! Gluing, coloring, and cutting. Some of our friends learned how to cut out hearts which was a difficult skill to learn.

Blue Room is having BABIES!! Teacher Thaovy, our Fancy Guppies and ME! Teacher Thaovy is expecting her baby in early April and I will be having a baby also in early July. The timing works out perfect that we will not be out at the same time. Our Maternity leaves will both be covered by the same person - Teacher Sammy. giving the children consistency which is very important. We are very excited to have Teacher Sammy be part of our Creative Minds Family. This Friday, March 13th is Teacher Thaovys last day. We will miss her but we cannot wait to meet her new baby boy. Our friends came up with some names today, some were very silly like milk, shakey firetruck, carrot, and some a little more traditional like Jonathan and Drew. We all had a laugh!

Hugs,

Teacher Kristina
