Letter F and Under the Sea

Hi there Blue Room Family and Friends,

A couple weeks ago we started learning our ABC's having one letter each week to concentrate on and work into our Reggio projects. Our first letter was the letter "F".

A, G, and R collaging their letter F using Feathers. The children were talking all about the different animals that had feathers - Falcons, Owls, Birds, and Chickens.

The boys realized that the word Frog starts with the letter F and decided to make a game. The game was called "Ribbit Ribbit...I WIN!!!" The rules: roll the dice then move the number of spaces while saying, "Ribbit, Ribbit...I WIN!"

For art, our friends used frogs to make frog prints. The children really liked to see the unique little prints from the frogs webbed feet.

For the week of letter "F" we thought it would be special to make a Friendship Fruit Salad. All of our friends brought in a fruit to share with each other. Each child used a plastic knife to cut their fruit. It was so neat to hear the conversations about the different fruits and to see the children try some fruits that they had never tried before.

Eating our very yummy Fruit Salad with our Friends!

In PreK we recalled which fruits were brought to school and were mixed together in our fruit salad. Our PreK friends cut out the different fruits that they drew and glued them into a bowl.

M making her rainbow fishy using drift wood.

PreK looking though a fishy story to identify all the capital and lower case F's

G and M working on their Under the Sea pictures. The children love to use glue and glitter and were taking about making the fish a coral reef and putting sea weed so the they could hide from sharks.

Our beautiful fish tanks! Please stop by the class to see the fish tanks and read the children's very unique fish tank stories. (Located on the blue wall.)

N and Teacher Janet exploring play doh together.

This is a map of the world and on the map are pictures of many different animals and they are located on the map on which part of the world they are from. The children really loved asking, "What's that animal called?" and then they would tell their friend, "Look thats a whale shark!"

L brought in her new puppy Toby to meet her friends in Blue Room. Each child got to feed Toby a snack. Toby was so friendly and soft. He was fun to play with and L was so excited to share the new edition to her family.

Thank you to J and L for bringing Toby in to meet us!

Hugs,

Teacher Kristina

PreK and Fancy Guppies

Hi Blue Room Family and Friends,

Teacher Richa starting off PreK for the new school year. The PreK students have their own new PreK notebooks that they work in and they have been taking pride in their work as they are now the older children in the class.

J working on straight vertical lines.

A working on beginning writing skills.

The fancy guppies that the children picked from Petco are beautiful! Their colors are so bright and the children love to watch them swim and chase each other. E working on her observation of the fancy guppies.

If you have ever gone to Petco I'm sure you have noticed that the tanks the fish are kept in describe the type of fish inside, such as if they are friendly, what they like, and anything in particular that you should know about that fish. So we decided to have each child write about their fancy guppy and what they are like.

Making our own unique wild animals - stop by our class wall in the dramatic play area to see our documentation about our animals. I'm always in awe of what the children come up with.

We hav been working on melting and making new multi-colored crayons for a while. First the children peeled all of the crayons. They then sorted them by color.

Then broke the crayons into tiny pieces

And placed the colors they wanted into mini cupcake trays.

We then put them into the oven and let the crayons melt. After they cooled we peeled the paper and tried to color with them. The children really loved seeing the process and the transformation into their new multicolored crayon-cupcakes.

M adding some color to our yard outdoors.

A and L talking while painting.

The paint went from the logs to our legs and arms. The girls were laughing as they mixed colors all over themselves.

E, L, and A looking like Blue Room Smurfs. Paint Hugs!

Lots of laughs and giggles!

J building his structure using wooden blocks

A and E building with foam blocks.

We have been very busy in Blue Room working on being respectful, self-help skills, taking care of our classroom, being good friends, and having fun!

Thank you for all your continued support!

Hugs,

Teacher Kristina
