St. Patrick's Day & Letter I and U

Hi Blue Room Family and Friends,

Happy Belated St. Patricks Day! We celebrated Teacher Romina's Birthday on the same day!

We all wore green! Cheese!

S and G putting on the last details on our Leprechaun trap.

My friend Genie came to say hi and joined in to paint nails green and silver for St. Patricks day. Some of our friends wanted all green, all silver, and of course some wanted patterns with alternating colors.

We made rainbows to trick the leprechaun to think that there was gold in our trap. We practiced singing the colors of the rainbow. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.

More rainbows...

J offering if anyone was interested in a scoop of green ice cream

We set our Leprechaun trap outside and we noticed that the leprechaun left us pencils but we didn't catch him.

We were excited to try and examine how he got away.

We LOVE to be silly!

We had some nematodes to look at, they looked like golden flakes.

Digging and mixing in our nematodes to take care of the grubs so that we can plant again in our planter box

Letter I. We used eye-droppers to transfer colored water into ice trays to use to paint with.

Oh my, was making ice cream an effort! Our class was so excited to make ice cream, until they started and realized just how much work it was! But they hung in there, and I got a work out out of it too!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!

J and S exploring insects in our sensory box filled with beans.

We observed our little caterpillars and drew them into our journals.

We counted our caterpillars and we took turns observing them and drawing them.

E and I collaging their letter U.

Practicing coloring in the lines of a magical unicorn.

Z and R working hard on their umbrellas.

Our friend P brought a puzzle of the United States of America for sharing. E and Z worked so hard to complete this puzzle on their own. Go team work!

This week we practiced Unity and working together as a class. I love the moments when ten or so of the children are all engrossed in one thing and are working together and collaborating together to build a project. I overheard awesome conversations about what pieces they needed, and saw them share and trade trains with one another.

Building our vertical puzzles and knocking them down.

It is officially Spring time, and we have also officially welcomed A into our class as she has transitioned from red room. A is using a stencil to paint some spring time flowers.

Our class LOVES cooking activities! Letter U was a difficult letter to find something to cook, until we thought of Pineapple Upside Down Cake!

Smelling the cake mix. The Upside down cake had many steps to follow but we followed all of them.

One of the most fun parts of the cooking activity usually involves cracking eggs.

S scraping the cake bater to cover the pineapple.

Our caked was baked to perfection.

And then the final step -- flipping it over. The children were so amazed to see us flip the cake and see the pineapple that was once on the bottom be on top. We all made many jokes about having to eat the upside down cake while hanging upside down. :)

G enjoying his pineapple Upside down cake. Yummy!

Drawing Under the table. We talked about the artist Michelangelo who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel laying down like us.

Finally, the children dared me to go upside down, so I had no choice but to show them that I could! I shared with them that if they practice during gymnastics that they too could flip upside down someday. Although I did cheat a little and use the wall to help me! :)

Hugs,

Teacher Kristina
