Castles and Letter "K"

Hello Family and Friends,

Here's what has been going on in Blue Room.

Our castle came along nicely as the children brainstormed what colors to use to paint it. In the end, they decided on, "all colors, we want a rainbow castle!" The picture above shows N, J, G, and R painting the outside.

K and Z working on painting the interior of the draw bridge. The children's imaginations and conversations regarding playing with the castle were so priceless. "Where is my Knight in Shining Armor?" "Quick, all the princesses to the towers -- the enemy is coming!" "I'll save you, don't worry!"

E working on cutting out his horse and knight.

K cutting out her princesses and J cutting out his knight wearing amor carrying his sword and shield.

Collaging our letter K, using "K"angaroos, "K"nights, "K"arate, "K"oalas, popcorn "K"ernals, "K"ittens, and letter "K"s

One of our stations this week was using "K"eys and locks. This was a fun challenge for the children. Everyone who went to this station concentrated very hard to figure out which key fit. S is working on the silver lock.

P is trying to figure out which key fits the lock correctly.

One of our favorite carpet activities is building with magna tiles. E made a ship out of 4 triangular prisms.

Z is making a cube out of magna tiles. He made envelopes to send in his mail box using a square and a triangle

Team work! The children feel so proud when they complete a big puzzle together.

The children have been enjoying guessing, observing, and exploring. We had a pack of foam sea creatures that are in little capsules that dissolve in warm water. Everyone picked a colored capsule and placed it into the warm water and then tried to guess what it would turn into. We had a fish, seahorse, shark, seal, walrus, stingray, dolphin, and many more.

It was really fascinating to watch them grow.

Next to snowboarding, one of my other favorite outdoor activities is "K"ayaking. Since it was letter "K" week I thought that this would be a neat thing to bring for my sharing. The children all got a turn to use the foot pump for help blow it up. It was very exciting to watch the children's excitement grow as the kayak got bigger.

All the children climbed in and we sang "Row Row Row your Boat." They pretended to go down a waterfall as I moved the kayak and Teacher Sandi sprinkled water on the children. It was funny to see our two person kayak transform into a boat for all ten children.

Cheese!

What better way to listen to story time other than all laying snuggled in the kayak. Thank you to teacher Sandi for reading to us and spending the morning with us

There were eleven in the kayak and the little one said roll over, roll over... So they all rolled over and one fell out. :)

Making "K"abobs using bananas, blueberries, grapes, pineapple, strawberries, and apples.

Our friends were so excited to eat their kabobs and they even snaked on the fruit while building their kabobs. It was neat to see the children pick their favorite fruits and some children tried to make a pattern.

It has been a busy past couple weeks for me, sorry this blog post is from a couple weeks ago...

Hugs,
Teacher Kristina
